Paper Plate Angels
At the Grove
The 3D angels were too ambitious so we produced individual angels, as per the chain below, which were then decorated. Residents' names were included so that they could be used as place-names for the Christmas lunch table. Chains were also produced on which residents wrote the names of people they remember at Christmas time (past and present, family friends, the Christmas card list they have not been able to send etc. ....).
Unfortunately at time of worship focussing on these could not happen because of other things happening in the home.
Idea for 2015
Focussing on the generosity of God in offering his Son we will begin with a Christmas hamper, with conversation and examples of favourite foods along with some of the extravagant foods that are associated with Christmas celebrations.
This will lead into some worship - carols, readings, prayers - carefully chosen to be well known as well as relevant to the theme.
The pictures illustrate a number of ways of creating these, both 3d and flat. They can also be put to different uses - wall decoration, for the tree or as place-name holders for the Christmas table.
Instructions can be easily found on the web.
A starting point for conversation about angels is the simple fact that they are God's communicators.
In thinking of angels we might remember those who have done these things in our lives. We might remember family and friends - those who have shared life and love with us and therefore shared something of God. These are our angels!
One format of paper-plate angel makes them place-name holders. With our name on one we are reminded that we are all God's angels in one way or another.
